Whimsical House
This house was not always a pie. First, I made a sort of extended pinch pot and added a top, intending to make an acorn. Quickly, I discovered that I could not make the pattern on top of an acorn cap without the top collapsing. Daniel actually gave me the idea to make the house into a pie, which I loved. I loved the unpainted clay, but I wish I had chosen more of a pie crust color and been a little cleaner with the underglaze on the lattice top. I’m planning on touching it up with some underglaze and then clear glazing it.
Vessel w/ interesting feet + Teapot
I combined these pieces because I thought it would be cute. However, it was rather tedious-- the feet were fragile, but I was committed to making them look realistic! I’m proud of how the body turned out; it was probably my smoothest pinch pot to date. Making sure there was enough counterweight in the feet was hard, but I think it went well as this teapot is relatively stable. Another big win: it can be picked up by the handle! I’m happy the handle isn’t too fragile. The hands were super fun to make and I’m glad I added them. I’m not very happy with the lid or the “ruggedness”-- my next step is to sand this in some areas and glaze it (maybe with peach so it looks like skin? maybe colorful? not sure) This “sassy teapot” is pretty functional and fun, so I’m hoping I can think of a cool way to glaze it.

Organic Shape
I am so proud of this. I decided to use the wheel to make an organic vase-type thing, as I wanted it to be useful and truly just reflect the organic motion of my hands. I think it went exceedingly well and really reflected my vision. I used wet and malleable clay, and sort of pinched it once it was off the wheel to make the waves more pronounced. I knew I wanted to use a crystal glaze to add organic color as well, and i wish I had gone with more of a blue/purple/pink (many people have mistaken this piece for a misshapen burrito) but honestly the neutrals are growing on me and the burrito comparison is becoming charming! I intend to use this as a vase.
Choice Project - pepper dish 2!
For my choice project, I made another dish shaped like a pepper. It is a companion to the other one I made, but slightly larger. It is currently being fired, so it is pictured as greenware. I used the same technique and reference as I did with my last pepper. However, I plan to glaze this one in a different color. It is yet another veggie-related project (made so that I can put them alongside my platter and be able to bring more veggies; I plan for the big pepper to hold something like olives!)

Advanced Large Sculpture
This sculpture was a very harrowing thing to make. Pictured is when this sculpture was whole. Currently, it is being fired in 3 pieces, which I plan to glaze and then glue back together. I am proud of how the wings turned out; I used a Pinterest tutorial. Sadly, they kept falling off and I guess all my fixes weren’t enough. I am also proud of the anguish I was able to convey in the central figure’s body language. I think this piece told a good story when it was unbroken, and it also tells a good story with its many cracks. Maybe I’ll accentuate the cracks with glaze to show the journey this sculpture has taken and give more backstory to the figure’s pain. The plan was for this to be 6 inches in wingspan/width rather than height (which was okayed) and I also think the individual wings are around 6 inches if I remember correctly.
Final Project - Platter
This is based off a piece I saw at the Legion of Honor; vintage botanical ceramics inspired me to make a lettuce platter. My first try cracked in half and had to be scrapped, which was quite upsetting. However, my second try came together super quickly. I abandoned the method of attempting to use a mold, and instead rolled a slab and pulled the sides up & out for a lettuce leaf shape. If I did it again, I would make it a bit bigger. However, I'm very proud of the coloration and glaze job. With more time, I could have made it more ornate. However, I'm fairly satisfied and will also take this home and use it for the kitchen. I am going to load it with veggies!!
